Nasketucket Land Preservation Project

Posted November 19th, 2013 in Uncategorized by Charles Radville

Thank you to those of you who attended Town Meeting last evening and voted in favor of the Nasketucket Land Preservation Project (Article 18). For those of you who couldn’t attend, we made our case as to why $50,000 is needed at this Town Meeting and why an additional $128,000 will be required in May and Town Meeting voted unanimously in favor of the expenditure. It was great to see such strong support for this large and complicated land protection effort that has been put together by the Buzzards Bay Coalition.

There is still plenty more to do before the deal is done, but this was an important step in Mattapoisett. Thanks again for your support.

Friends Alternative Gift Fair- Nov. 9
The MLT will participate this year on November 9, 10 AM – 1 PM in an Alternative Gift Fair organized by the Mattapoisett Friends Meeting. We will offer gift memberships, MLT merchandise and some unique items made from materials collected from MLT land. In addition we will have a silent auction for 2 objects d’art that were donated to the MLT by the artists, Hugh and Donna Kelly of Weston, MA, and Aucoot Road. Mr. Kelly has carved in alabaster an 11” high profile of the Wampanoag chief, Metacomet. Mrs. Kelly has painted a lovely fall scene of ducks on the salt marsh. You don’t have to be present to have the winning bid. If you are interested in viewing the items or placing a bid before November 9, please contact MLT President Gary Johnson at 774-263-6657 or send an email to

Mattapoisett Land Trust Autumn Trail Walk

Posted October 4th, 2013 in Uncategorized by Charles Radville

For the past several years, the Land Trust has worked to improve the trail system in the Old Aucoot area of Mattapoisett. The MLT would like to invite the public to explore the trail network through a guided walk on Saturday, October 12, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. The walk will begin at the Friends Meeting House on Marion Road (Route 6), proceed through the Brownell and Martocci Preserves, over the Buckley bridge to Grace Pond and then south to Old Slough Road and Angelica Avenue. Transportation will be provided back to the Meeting House for those not wishing to walk back. Refreshments will also be provided.

All interested walkers should meet at the Friends Meeting House at 2:00 pm. Although this is a relatively dry time of year, the MLT suggests that walkers dress appropriately for a walk in a wooded wetland: long sleeves and long pants with waterproof shoes are recommended.
