MLT Blueberry Orchard Clean-up

Posted April 10th, 2013 in Conservation, Event, Recreation by Charles Radville

The Mattapoisett Land Trust acquired the Brownell Preserve in 2011 with the hope that it would one day be able to restore the overgrown blueberry orchard. Private contributions, including a Community Grant from the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation, provided the funds to enable the MLT to hire professionals who removed the forest cover this winter. Now the MLT needs volunteers to complete the clean-up by collecting the debris that litters the orchard’s rows.

The MLT is inviting everyone interested in helping restore the blueberry orchard to join us at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 27, for a couple of hours of community service. Volunteers should meet in the parking lot of the Friends Meeting House on Route 6 before proceeding onto the Brownell Preserve. Tools will be provided but gloves and boots are highly recommended.
