The Southeastern Massachusetts Land Trusts Convocation was organized by The Compact of Cape Cod Conservation Trusts on Saturday, February 5, 2011 in Bourne.

Speakers covered a range of subjects from trail construction, fundraising, land preservation and “Undevelopment” of damaged lands back to their original, natural state. The convocation was both educational and inspiring and left all board members with a renewed energy and commitment to the importance of preserving open space in Mattapoisett for future generations to enjoy.

Walk the Brownell Property with Us!

Posted January 31st, 2011 in Event, News, Recreation by Charles Radville

The Mattapoisett Land Trust invites the public to join members and friends on Saturday, February 12, from 1:00 to 2:30 pm as we visit the Brownell parcel, the property that the MLT hopes to acquire in June of this year. We’ll examine the current condition of the blueberry orchard and proceed along the existing trails to the stone wall on the southern boundary. The walk will demonstrate why the Brownell parcel is an important addition to the holdings of the Land Trust but it will also offer a chance to experience the beauty of the winter woods.

All interested walkers should meet at the Friends Meeting House at 1:00 pm from where the group will proceed across Route 6 past the Martocci Preserve. Drinks and snacks will be provided. In case of inclement weather, or if the snow is too deep, we will try again at 1:00 pm on Saturday, February 19.  For more information call 774-377-9191, or email

Salty the Santa Seahorse

Posted January 14th, 2011 in News by Charles Radville

The Holiday season is now officially over as Salty the Seahorse gave up his Santa hat for another year today. We worry about how he will keep warm without even a hat to cover his head!
IMG 06812 Salty the Santa SeahorseVery special thanks to Brownell’s Systems for putting the hat on Salty back in December and removing it today. Thanks also to the Mattapoisett Police Department for keeping the area safe. We appreciate the help and support.
We hope Salty the Santa Seahorse made everyone’s holiday season a little brighter.
