Mattapoisett Land Trust
Education Committee

The purpose of the Mattapoisett Land Trust Education Committee (MLT Ed Committee) is to promote access to and excellence in the environmental sciences in order to improve the quality of life for all area residents and to contribute to the vitality of our community.

It is the intention of the MLT Ed Committee to reach as many children as possible.  Events, which benefit a significant number of children, will be given priority over those events that only benefit a few.

A majority of the funding available to the MLT Ed Committee is because of a grant from the Edith Glick Shoolman Fund. The fund was created by the MLT through a bequest from Edith Glick Shoolman (1904-2003) to provide for the direct and indirect support of children.  Mrs. Schoolman’s dream was to make a difference in the lives of children.  Therefore the MLT ED Committee will promote projects that involve and encourage environmental education and physical activity, are directed at improving academic skills, and encourage children to explore the world around them and their role within it.

Through the Shoolman Fund, the MLT offers the Blanche B. Perry Scholarship to a Mattapoisett senior graduating by June of the current year, from secondary school pursuing an education in scientific, environmental studies or a related field.
