In
its nearly thirty years of existence the Mattapoisett Land Trust
has obtained, through gifts, purchases and swaps, lands totaling
over 360 acres in Mattapoisett and Rochester (the Oldfield Farm).
These twenty-six properties lie in all parts of the town and range
in size from less than an acre to over 95 acres. In addition, we
helped provide funding, with the Fairhaven-Acushnet Land
Preservation Trust and the State, to purchase the 207-acre
Naskatucket Bay State Reservation.
We have provided a small sample of our properties here,
specifically ones that we thought would be of special interest
either because of their visibility, their biodiversity, or their
historical significance. For each of the properties we have
indicated when we obtained the property and from whom and whether
or not the property has trails that are open to the public.
In addition, we would encourage you to visit other properties that
aren’t described here. A full list of the properties is available
with our map of Mattapoisett’s Protected Spaces. We make one
special request, however. When you visit any of our properties we
ask that you carry a plastic bag and collect any litter that you
find on the property. While we wish to encourage the conscientious
use of our properties, we don’t have the resources to pick-up
after those who are careless or inconsiderate. Thank you for your
help.
